A program has been recommended
Someone you trust, maybe a therapist, the school or an educational consultant, has told you your child needs to go somewhere, and they want an answer soon. You may feel relieved that someone finally has a plan and terrified that it’s the wrong one. Both are reasonable. I worked inside residential treatment and therapeutic boarding schools for years, and I know how fast these decisions get made and how little room parents get to think. Before you sign anything, let’s look at what is actually going on at home, what this program would and wouldn’t do for your child, and what else is possible. Sometimes the answer is to go ahead. Sometimes it isn’t. You should make the call with the whole picture in front of you.
